Product Review

We rely on reviews for the Quality and Authenticity of a product. But did you know that 40% of the reviews are fake.

Here are some shocking facts on online reviews.

  • 61% of electronics review is fake.
  • 63% of reviews on beauty products are fake
  • 59% of sneaker review is unreliable
  • 64% of supplement reviews cannot be trusted.

Amazon has over 250Mn reviews for a total of 600Mn products sold by 1.8Mn sellers.

For a seller to sell his product, he has to figure in the first three pages of Amazon search. Some reviewers are paid for 5 Star reviews to ensure the seller is on the top of the list. Often fake reviews are used to pull down the competition. In 2020 Amazon pulled down 20,000 fake reviews, indicating that fake review machine is at work.

Product Review Research

During the process of purchase, the consumer checks review on Product Review websites like Amazon product review. Didn’t you find at times too much of clutter in the reviews? One has to filter out unwanted reviews before you analyse and conclude.

The consumer may also like to Google and look at experts Review Blogs or Top 10 best products etc. But are all reviews written by experts? And who knows the review from an expert is a paid one.

The consumer may also like to get an opinion from his friend, relative or an acquaintance. But all your known circle may not have an idea on all the products that you may intend to purchase.

We believe there is a need for a community recommendation, who has no self-interest and they share their top 2 or 3 best purchases. Imagine every member of the community contributes his best investments and gives reviews with insights, which are duly verified.

Would that not give you the confidence to help you decide on the product to be purchased?

The Reviews by the community should be with full of insights. The reviews should address the pains so that the consumer can relate to it, thus helping him make a purchase decision.

Insights to value in a product

Here are the insights into the values in various products that I purchased gave me a feeling that it was more than it’s worth.

Example:

The value I got in Google Chrome Cast product was the viewing experience of YouTube videos in mobile on the big TV screen.

The value I got in Collins Complete Guide to Photography product was the source of the learning I got about photography design and rules. For me, the Rs 750 spent on a Photography book was priceless.

The value I got in AfterShokz Bluetooth Headset product was the convenience of talking to my customers and noting down details.

The value I got in Sigma Camera Lens 18-35 MM F-1.8 was value for money, for an investment of Rs 60,000, I had taken almost 200 videos of various properties recovering costs beyond its price.

The value I got in Apple MacBook Air product was the UI experience and the reliability.

The value I got in Logitech UE Bluetooth Speaker product was the Quality Sound experience and a ruggedness.

Apart from being the founder of Trustedstay, he has been the Director at Alcove service apartments, senior GM after sales at Haier appliances and GM after sales at Whirlpool. After joining his wife in the year 2007, he helped expand Alcove service apartments from one apartment in Bangalore to a 500+ room inventory company spread across 100+ properties in 11 cities.


J. Sivashankar
